The period after childbirth is one of the most critical yet overlooked stages of maternal care. In Ghana, many new mothers lack access to postnatal check-ups, essential medications, mental health support, and newborn care. This project provides comprehensive postpartum care to protect the health and wellbeing of mothers and their babies during the first weeks after delivery.
After delivery, many women in Ghana face complications such as infections, excessive bleeding, postpartum depression, and breastfeeding challenges. Due to financial hardship, limited awareness, and distance to health facilities, many mothers do not receive postnatal care, increasing the risk of maternal illness, newborn complications, and even death.
This project will support new mothers by covering postnatal clinic visits, essential medications, mental health screening, and newborn check-ups. Working with local health facilities and community health workers, the project will ensure mothers receive timely follow-up care, health education, and referrals when complications arise.
By strengthening postpartum care in Ghana, this project will reduce preventable maternal and infant illnesses, promote healthy early childhood development, and encourage continued use of maternal healthcare services beyond delivery.
