Graduate Establishes a Lifeline for the Elderly

The impact of educating girls isn’t just a promise for future generations – it also holds the key to improving the lives of today’s elderly population.  In Tanzania, there are policies in place to ensure that the elderly receive support through the Community Health Fund (CHF) and the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). However, due to a lack of awareness about these benefits among the elderly in rural areas, many go without critical health care. Recent college graduate, Sania, is working to change this.

With the help of your donations, Sania graduated from Mwenge Catholic University in July 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work. During her studies, she completed field work at Maweni Hospital in Kigoma, during which she worked as an advocate and counselor to elderly patients, helping them navigate the hospital system.

Sania continues to use her skills and compassion to support some of her community’s most vulnerable individuals.  “In my continued efforts to develop my social work profession, I have been visiting elderly people to provide various counseling services.”

By empowering girls through education, we not only pave a brighter future for them, but also create a ripple effect that supports and strengthens the well-being of Tanzania’s elderly population, fostering a more resilient and interconnected society for all.
