Greetings supporters of Project Wezesha - a partner of Girls Education International!
Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed in the past year to support our secondary school students in Western Tanzania. This year was an exciting year! Four of our students graduated from secondary school in October! We invite you to join us in celebrating with Hindu, Edina, Khadija and Silvesia on this wonderful accomplishment!
Many girls in this region don't have the opportunity to attend secondary school - let alone graduate and explore further opportunities supported by their education! All four of these young women are eagerly awaiting July when co-founders Lucas and Rai will enroll them at the Vocational Education Training Authority (VETA). In this program, they will be able to study from a range of fields, including computer science, business management and tailoring. We look forward to sharing their stories in the future.
The rest of the students are working hard to maintain good grades, even when faced with the challenge of inadequate resources and class sizes ranging from 60-90 students per teacher. They know that it requires more motivation and investment on their part. Each of them has big dreams and we hope to see them all graduate and move on to the next level - VETA or high school - so that they can become productive contributors to their local (and global) communities.
We recently received some exciting news! We were selected by Authentic Fashion Resistance (AFR), a clothing company dedicated to providing support to children in various parts of Africa. The founder discovered Project Wezesha online. After a few conversations to make sure our values and approach to empowerment and development aligned, Project Wezesha was selected as the first partner for the Amani Hope Scholarship Fund. Through this alliance, AFR will provide support to add an additional 5 students to our scholarship program. The final selection will be made this summer and these student will be supported through Project Wezesha as part of the Amani Hope Scholarship Fund. We're excited to announce who has been selected in July! In addition to these students, Project Wezesha hopes to add additional students to bring our total up to 20 students for the 2012-2013 academic year.
