Dear Project Wezesha Supporters,
We're delighted to share a narrative written beautifully by Hamisi as he embarks on his fifth year in medical school, where he is on a path to becoming a surgeon. He wrote this reflective memoir in recognition of where he started and in celebration of where he plans to go! We are so proud of all that he's accomplished and how focused he has remained throughout his academic studies for the 10 years we've supported him as a scholarship student. He embodies the compassion and integrity that will ensure his future patients and colleagues are always treated fairly and with the greatest of care. Enjoy his story and photos! We can't wait to celebrate his graduation this coming summer!

THE BEGINNING OF MY JOURNEY
When I look back at where my journey began, I see a young boy full of dreams, but with limited chances. My parents worked hard but sometimes even smallest school requirements felt heavy for them. There were days when I almost gave up; days when I watched my classmates walk into class confidently while I worried about tomorrow. I was in Form Two when life changed in a way I could never have imagined.
That was the year I met Project Wezesha at study camp - a moment that opened a new chapter in my life. Before that, school was never easy. I had a big dream inside me, a dream to become a doctor, but it often felt too far to reach. I used to admire doctors whenever I saw them in hospitals or on television. The way they cared for patients, the way people trusted them, and the difference they made inspired me deeply. I wanted to be like them - someone who could save lives, bring hope, and help others in their weakest moments.
But as much as I dreamed, reality was difficult. Financial struggles were a constant challenge. Sometimes, I wasn’t sure if I would continue with school. Still, I held onto my dream quietly, praying that one day I would have the chance to study and help people.
The study camp became a turning point. It was not just a place for learning; it was a place where hope took root. During the camp, I was able to cover the syllabus for different subjects on time, something I had struggled to do on my own. The structured lessons, guidance from teachers, and group discussions helped me understand difficult topics and prepare for exams confidently. For the first time, I felt that my education was within my control.
I still remember that feeling when I first learned I was going to be supported. It was like a heavy weight lifted from my shoulders. I finally felt that my dream had a chance. The support I received was not only financial, but emotional too. I began to believe more in myself.
From that day, I promised myself that I would not waste the chance I had been given. Every exam, every lesson, and every challenge became a step toward my dream of becoming a doctor. I knew that with dedication, faith, and the support of Project Wezesha, I could achieve something extraordinary
That was the moment I realized that education is not just a personal journey it’s a gift that connects people through kindness and purpose.
A NEW HOPE
When Project Wezesha started supporting me, everything in my life began to change. For the first time, I could focus on my studies without worrying too much about what I did not have. That support came at a time when I needed it the most and it gave me a new kind of hope that I had never felt before.
I remember the early days so clearly. I was still young, but inside I had started to grow stronger. Knowing that someone out there believed in me gave me confidence. It reminded me that I was not alone. I had people who cared, people who wanted to see me succeed. That feeling became my daily motivation to study harder and make them proud.
As I continued through school, I started to see myself differently. I was no longer just a student trying to survive I was someone with a purpose. I began to dream not only about becoming a doctor, but about becoming a person who could one day support others the same way I was being supported.
Each exam, each challenge, and each late night study session became a step closer to that dream. I learned to work hard, stay disciplined, and keep my heart full of gratitude. My teachers noticed my effort, and my performance improved. Slowly, I began to see that my dream was not impossible.
Project Wezesha became more than just an organization to me it became my extended family. Every letter, every message, and every form of encouragement I received reminded me that this was not just my journey, but our journey together.
It was in those moments that I promised myself: “One day, I will make a difference just as they did for me.”
GROWTH, CHALLENGES, AND DETERMINATION
The journey after Form Two was not always easy. Life still had its challenges, and there were moments that tested my strength and patience. But through all of it, I learned one powerful lesson that true growth comes when you refuse to give up.
As I moved forward in school, I faced times when things felt overwhelming. There were exams that seemed impossible, long nights of studying under pressure, and days when I felt tired and uncertain about the future. But each time I thought of the people who believed in me my family, my teachers, and the team from Project Wezesha I found new energy to keep going.
Their support reminded me that education was not just about passing exams. It was about building character, discipline, and faith in yourself. I learned how to manage my time, how to stay focused even when things around me were difficult, and how to believe that every small step mattered.
There were times when my environment made studying hard - sometimes no quiet place to read, sometimes limited resources - but I learned to adapt. I began to see challenges as opportunities to grow stronger. Every obstacle became part of my story.
With time, I started performing better and gaining more confidence. I learned to help my classmates whenever I could, and together we supported each other. I discovered that when we work together, we achieve more than when we walk alone.
Looking back now, those tough moments shaped who I am. They taught me humility, patience, and the importance of hard work. I realized that success is not just about talent it’s about consistency, courage, and never losing faith in the journey.
WALKING THROUGH THE DREAM
When I joined university to study medicine, it felt like I was finally stepping into the dream that began years ago. I still remember the first day walking through the gates, meeting new classmates, seeing the laboratories and lecture halls everything felt so real and exciting. It was the beginning of a new chapter, one that carried all my hopes and the trust that Project Wezesha had placed in me.
At first, the journey was not easy. The workload was heavy, the lectures were long, and sometimes the pressure felt too much. But I kept reminding myself why I was here. I was here because I wanted to help people, to save lives, and to give back to the community that raised me. That purpose gave me strength even when things were hard.
Studying medicine has taught me many lessons beyond textbooks. I have learned compassion, teamwork, and discipline. I have also realized how powerful collaboration can be. Together with my fellow medical students, we have organized and participated in medical camps, reaching out to communities that have little or no access to healthcare. Those experiences opened my eyes even more to the real meaning of being a doctor it’s not only about hospitals and procedures, but about humanity and service.
During those camps, I often find myself thinking of how far I have come from a young boy in Form Two who was unsure of the future, to a medical student helping patients in the field. Every time I hold a stethoscope or help a patient smile again, I silently thank Project Wezesha for making this journey possible.
University life has also taught me resilience and balance. Between lectures, ward rounds, and exams, I have learned how to stay focused and keep my spirit positive. The support I have continued to receive reminds me that I carry a bigger responsibility to make a difference, not only for myself, but for everyone who has believed in me.
Each day at the university brings me closer to the doctor I want to become. Each patient encounter reminds me that this is the right path for me the path of healing, hope, and compassion.
PREPARING FOR THE FINAL STEP
As I completed my fourth year in medical school, I felt both proud and humbled by how far I have come. The journey has not been easy, but every challenge, every late night of studying, and every lesson learned has prepared me for the next step -my fifth year.
The fifth year is a critical part of my training. It will bring new responsibilities, longer hospital rotations, more patients to care for, and more opportunities to learn the skills I need to become a great doctor. It is also a year where I will continue collaborating with my colleagues to support communities through medical camps, outreach programs, and health awareness activities.
At this point, I would like to take a moment to politely request the continued support of Project Wezesha. Your guidance, encouragement, and financial support have been the pillars of my success. As I step into my final year, I humbly ask that you continue walking with me, so I can finish this journey strong and continue on the path to becoming a surgeon.
I promise to continue working hard, maintaining discipline, and representing Project Wezesha with pride. Every patient I care for, every community I reach, and every challenge I overcome will be a tribute to the support you have given me.
The fifth year is not just about completing medical school it is about preparing to serve humanity, and I am ready to embrace it with all my heart. I am determined to use every lesson, every skill, and every opportunity to grow into a doctor who can make a real difference in people’s lives.
GRATITUDE AND FUTURE HOPE
As I reach the final chapters of my medical journey, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Every step I have taken, from Form Two to now, has been guided by the kindness, support, and encouragement of so many amazing people.
First, I want to thank Project Wezesha especially the co-founders Prof Rai Farrelly, Lucas Lameck, and Education Director Dr. Madaga Fadhili. Your belief in me has been more than financial support; it has been a beacon of hope and a source of motivation. You have shown me that when someone believes in you, even the impossible can become possible.
To my family, thank you for your love, prayers, and sacrifices. Your faith in me, even in the toughest moments, has been my anchor. To my teachers and mentors, your guidance, patience, and wisdom have shaped not only my academic path but also my character.
To my fellow students and colleagues, thank you for walking this journey with me for sharing knowledge, supporting one another, and participating together in medical camps that bring hope to our communities.
As I prepare for my fifth year, I humbly ask for continued support so I can finish this journey strong. Your help ensures that I can focus fully on my studies, grow into the doctor I aspire to be, and continue giving back to society.
My dream of becoming a great surgeon is driven by the desire to save lives, heal communities, and inspire future generations. Every patient I help, every student I mentor, and every challenge I overcome will be a tribute to the love, guidance, and support I have received.
This is not just a story of my journey; it is a story of hope, gratitude, and perseverance. It is proof that dreams can grow when nurtured with care, faith, and support.
