The Kidspire schools in Kenya are located in remote areas where children wouldn't otherwise have access to a local school. This means that high percentages of school age children are out of school. In the communities where we teach, this number is 96% - showing how important it is for there to be locally accessible schools. But, we have also learned that just because we open a school, it doesn't mean that all the children suddenly show up to school. It requires advocacy and persuasion to encourage families to send their children to school. And once they show up, we need to make sure that the kids love school!
One of the best ways we know how to do this is to facilitate a child-centered classroom where learning is collaborative, engaging, and hands-on. When learning is fun for the students, they perform better, are more likely to return to school with a smile, and maintain their enrollment.
Thank you for helping make it possible for Kidspire to operate schools in remote parts of Kenya.
Sincerely,
Tad
