We are critically aware of the danger our wildlife faces during the festive season. There are extraordinary threats due to poachers trying to obtain illegal supplies of wild animal meat during the Christmas season. During the past year, we have diligently saved towards replacing our security fence with new material and are pleased to announce that we have now at last begun to replace the fence! Your support has helped us achieve this important goal.
Equally as important is the surveillance of the wildlife reserve, and our new wildlife guard is now assisting with the setup and maintenance of the outdoor cam camera that helps reveal any intrusion. Some of the photos have been very interesting, identifying a leopard with her cubs, a white tail mongoose, a porcupine family, several genets, and a rather large Nyala bull that was captured while he was curiously looking into the lens of the cam. The cams also reveal at times, an animal that may have been snared such as the previous hyena that moved in from a neighboring reserve.
Our drone is a great help and we regularly fly it to check our boundaries. The drone photo of the zebra and wildebeest shows an internal fence, not the new boundary fence.
The most pressing need going forward is to afford to employ another well-qualified night watchman to assist with ensuring that the wildlife stays safe at night.
All the inside support we have, however, would be futile without an excellent security fence and we thank all who have assisted us in replacing our old fence with a better quality security fence.
Wishing all our supporters and everyone, a wonderful festive season and every Blessing for 2024.
