Since our last report, Ouelessebougou Alliance has helped an additional 6,666 children (aged 0-5) and 2,298 pregnant women– a total of 8,964 people have received vaccinations. We partner with the public Ouelessebougou Hospital to get the vaccinations distributed to the rural areas surrounding Ouelessebougou. One in ten children born in Mali passes away by the age of five years old. These vaccinations work to prevent polio, yellow fever, measles, diphtheria, tetanus, mumps, chickenpox, meningitis, and hepatitis B.

The following community stories illustrate how critical these life-saving vaccinations are in Mali.

Maimouna, a mother of five children in the village of Oure says, “Vaccination is the best way to prevent children from diseases such as measles, tetanus, diphtheria and mumps. My brother died at 2 years old because of lack of vaccination. I did not want my children to die early because of preventable diseases. That is why I came to vaccinate my children. I thank the Ouelessebougou Alliance for supporting our vaccination program.”

Kaba, a mother of eight children from Oure says, “If a child is sick, a mother is sick. The two best things a mother is looking for is to see her children are healthy and happy. Vaccination is making our children happy and healthy and that is making the mothers happy and healthy too. If a baby is sick, her mother has a hard time eating, sleeping and focusing. We love vaccination programs of the Ouelessebougou Alliance such as children and pregnant women.”

Thank you for being a part of this significant program that is changing lives not just in the current generation, but for generations to come. Help us fund the next year's worth of vaccinations by donating again today.
