We just got back from our adminstrative expedition trip to Mali. We had the chance to tour the local public hospital in Ouelessebougou and meet the staff there. It was a humbling experience to see the conditions they work in and the miracles they try to bring about. We saw an infant dying in his young mother's arms and met a set of twins who were born one hour earlier--strong, healthy baby boys being held by their grandmothers. Life and death are constant companions in this region of the world.
The Alliance's health projects exist to educate villagers about how they can improve their own lives and the lives of their children. Our vaccination program is a major component of our overall health goals. And we could not do it without the unique parnertship between the Malian Ministry of Health, the Ouelessebougou Public Hospital, and the young men who are trained to do the vaccinations in remote locations.
Below are a few pictures of one of these young men getting ready to head out to a village.
