Fortunately, at the moment, Ebola has been contained in Mali. The government worked hard to spread the message about the virus and so did Ouelessebougou Alliance staff. We trained all 50 Health Agents and Matrons about the virus so they could return to their villages and spread the news to villagers.
The Alliance's Health program is not only the first line of defense for villagers, it is the ONLY line of defense. For remote, rural villages in developing countries, health care is simply not available. It isn't available, it isn't located close, it isn't affordable...it just isn't an option.
That is why a virus like Ebola can take hold so easily. There is a lack of information available to remote villagers. Sanitation and hygiene remain a constant battle. And medical personnel and supplies are greatly lacking.
Ouelessebougou Alliance invests in each village's health by providing health agents and matrons. We work with each village to help them set and reach their health goals through our Health Village Workshops. And we provide vaccinations and mosquito nets so that our youngest village friends have a fighting chance at their most vulnerable age.
Thanks for your support of our vaccination program and your belief in our mission!
