Project Summary

The Rohingya Muslims have become one of the world’s largest stateless communities due to decades of oppression and violence. Since 2017, intensified attacks have forced approximately 940,000 people to flee to Bangladesh, triggering a severe humanitarian crisis. This mass displacement has placed significant strain on local infrastructure, healthcare services, and living conditions. The situation was further worsened by the major floods in 2022, which deepened the humanitarian emergency.

In the refugee camps, inadequate sanitation and insufficient infrastructure have posed serious threats to public health. Poor waste management and contaminated water sources have contributed to the rapid spread of diseases. In response, Yeryüzü Doktorlar, in cooperation with the World Health Organization and local authorities, has provided essential healthcare services, including free medication and medical support.

Since 2018, Yeryüzü Doktorlar has been operating in the camps in Cox’s Bazar, offering medical examinations, treatment, laboratory services, medication support, and referral services to thousands of refugees.

Achievements and Impact

During the period from August to November, healthcare services at the Thaingkhali Refugee Health Center continued without interruption. Throughout this period, services primarily focused on medical examinations and medication support.

In August, a total of 1,985 individuals received healthcare services. This number increased to 2,047beneficiaries in September. In October, services were provided to 1,924 individuals, and in November the number reached 2,049 beneficiaries. These figures demonstrate a consistent and stable delivery of healthcare services throughout the reporting period.

Medical consultations and medication support were delivered in parallel, reaching the same number of beneficiaries each month. Overall, between August and November, a total of 8,005 individuals benefited from healthcare services, underscoring the center’s vital role in addressing the essential health needs of the refugee population.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the implementation of health services at the Thaingkhali Refugee Health Center has played a critical role in addressing the urgent healthcare needs of the Rohingya refugee population. Through the consistent provision of medical examinations and medication support, the project has contributed significantly to improving access to essential healthcare services for vulnerable communities. The steady number of beneficiaries reached between August and November reflects both the ongoing demand for healthcare and the effectiveness of the project’s service delivery model. Overall, the intervention has strengthened local health response capacity, mitigated the impact of limited healthcare access, and supported the well-being of refugees living under challenging conditions. This initiative demonstrates the importance of sustained humanitarian health interventions in ensuring dignity, resilience, and continuity of care for displaced populations.
