Project Summary

Kongwa is a district in the Dodoma region of Tanzania with a population of about 310,000 people, most of whom are Muslim. The area faces serious challenges due to poverty and its rural structure. Limited infrastructure makes access to education and healthcare very difficult. The nearest health center is around four hours away by road, and during the rainy season, reaching medical services becomes even harder. In addition, many people in the region struggle with food shortages, and access to clean drinking water is a major problem.

According to data from the United Nations, poor sanitation in Tanzania causes the spread of many diseases. Health problems that could be treated easily often become life-threatening because people cannot reach medical services on time.

To address these challenges, Yeryüzü Doktorlar opened the first and only health center in Kongwa on July 6, 2025. The center provides basic healthcare services to the local population. It also employs local health workers, provides necessary medical equipment, and supports the development of the local healthcare system through training activities.

Achievements and Impact

Between July and October, healthcare services at the Yeryüzü Doktorlar Kongwa Health Center were delivered regularly and reached a significant number of beneficiaries. During this period, services focused mainly on medical examinations, medication support, and laboratory testing.

A total of 1,442 medical consultations were provided throughout the four-month period. Monthly data show that 641 people received services in July, 236 in August, 108 in September, and 457 in October. Medication support followed the same pattern, reaching the same number of beneficiaries each month.

In addition, 1,029 laboratory tests were conducted during this period. Of these, 476 were carried out in July, 155 in August, 98 in September, and 300 in October. These services supported the diagnosis and treatment of patients and strengthened the overall quality of healthcare delivery.

Overall, more than 2,400 individuals benefited from health services provided by the center between July and October. The consistent delivery of medical, pharmaceutical, and laboratory services demonstrates the important role of the health center in meeting essential healthcare needs and improving access to services for the local population.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the health services provided by the center have played a vital role in addressing the essential healthcare needs of the local population. Between July and October, more than 2,400 individuals benefited from medical, pharmaceutical, and laboratory services, highlighting the center’s significant contribution to improving access to healthcare in the region. The consistent delivery of these services not only strengthened the local health system but also helped reduce barriers to care for vulnerable communities. Overall, the project demonstrates the importance of sustained healthcare interventions in improving health outcomes and supporting community resilience.
