25,000 bags were distributed for the production of vegetables, fruit and leaves to improve food security.

Lubumbashi (CTD and Les Volontaires asbl) - The synergy between the NGOs Coordination Technique pour le Développement (CTD) and Les Volontaires Asbl has just completed the distribution of humanitarian aid to over 5,000 war-displaced people in the Lake Kivu area of Goma, in the province of South Kivu (eastern Democratic Republic of Congo). These people had been displaced by war, following fighting between the country's armed forces and the M23 militia.

The operation posed enormous logistical challenges, given the difficulties of accessing the Lake Kivu area and the authorities overseeing all operations. In all, more than 25,000 bags of vegetables, fruit and leaves were produced to improve food security on a sustainable basis in the refuge camps. The unloading was carried out in cooperation with members of ASBL les Volontaires de la République Démocratique du Congo.

A program was also launched to support the production and dissemination of market gardening techniques, benefiting 5,000 households, as well as the construction of two wells to support watering in the assisted sites.
