Un Cambio por lo mejor

                                                      IDELSA

Hello, I am a 22-year-old girl and I have Down syndrome. I live with my parents and my younger brother. I am the youngest of 3 siblings.

My parents sent me to a special education school, but I reached an age where they no longer accepted me. In 2016, the promoter Mella invited me to participate in a group of adolescents with different conditions. We meet now for the 6th year every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.

When I started to participate in the group I had a very strong temper. I liked to talk badly about my classmates, I was getting irritated easily, and I liked to throw things to attract attention.

Now I feel very happy attending the group, because the teachers Rosa and Dulce helped me to behave better. That's when I realized that by paying attention I can learn things, like putting together puzzles, writing my name and numbers, adding, subtracting.

They also encouraged me to help my mother around the house and be a good companion.

What I really like is when we get together with the other groups to watch a movie, sing, dance, discover new places and even go out for pizza.

I try not to skip any class because I really like it now., as I really missed it when I got very sick with Covid last year and could not attend for two months!

                                          *************************

We are really proud of Idelsa, she has come a long way. One thing she does not realize is that she often talks to an imaginary friend, asking him or her if she should do things or not. But this is becoming less also. She loves to dance and is really good at it!!

Thank you soo much for you support in helping Idelsa and the other children and young people with special conditions in our programs!

We do have a special campaign coming up on July 20th, when all donations of USD100 or more will be matched partially, as long as the funds do not run out!.  This is an opportunity to make your donation count 30%, 40% or 50% more and will help others like Idelsa find their way in life.

                                              THANK YOU!!
