Over the last couple of months, Project Harar's team along with Dietitian Natasha Mir have been working closely together to make sure our nutrition mission gets underway and makes the biggest impact we can in the 2 weeks Natasha is over in Ethiopia!
Due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to change our plans slightly, moving the mission from October 2016 to February 2017. This will allow us the time to make all necessary arrangements before the mission and we hit our fundraising targets!
So far we have had donations from Vita-biotics who have donated over 500 bottles (150ml) of baby vitamin syrup and 3V Natural Food Ltd with 24 pots of peanut butter. These donations will help to ensure that babies born with cleft lip and palate who are found by our Health Extension Workers do not become malnourished, and can have surgery to correct their clefts as soon as possible. Muaze pictured below is just one example of the children we help on a regular basis, so far Project Harar have treated over 4,500 children and young people with cleft conditions. We have also recently started working with a second dietician, Christie, to help Natasha with the planning for this mission. The information we gather in February mission will inform Christie for when she come out with Project Harar at a later stage, ensuring we are continuously learning and provide the best possible training for all our future nutrition programs.
