Project Harar’s own volunteer nutritionist, Natasha, has now landed in Ethiopia and has begun her 2-week ‘Nutrition Mission’ journey.
This is Natasha’s first time in Ethiopia and she was able to send over a few words about her experience so far:
“I arrived in Addis on Sunday to a very busy city, a lot of hustle and bustle… and so many cars. I have had my first Ethiopian meal with Aynalem (Project Harar’s country director) and her family, they were all so hospitable and the meal was very tasty. Injera, shiro, lentil curry, cabbage – loads!
'Have since then caught an early morning flight where I experienced the internal airport and drunk lots of coffee during a coffee ceremony.
'I have now arrived in Harar which has such a friendly vibe, again lots to see. We met with the health zonal officials who are really keen to support our program. All in all a great first couple of days.”
Over the next week Natasha and Biniyam (Project Harar Ethiopia’s Programme and Partnership Manager) will be working with Health Workers in Kersa woreda in Oromia, the largest zone in Ethiopia and where Project Harar first started its cleft program over 14 years ago.
Not only will Natasha be training the health workers on balanced diets and techniques used to measure people's BMI, but there will also be a chance for Natasha to gather information from the health workers themselves, finding out the problems that people can face in the more remote regions of Ethiopia and how Project Harar may be able to help in our future programmes.
We would like to thank everyone who has donated towards Natasha’s mission so far. We will keep everyone updated on how the training sessions go and what else Natasha gets up to on the rest of her trip.
