This December, we’re proud to present an organization that is transforming the lives of women and children in rural Nepal, where extreme poverty and harmful cooking practices have endangered their health and safety for far too long.
Across rural Nepal, many families are forced to rely on fuelwood for cooking due to the high cost of cleaner energy alternatives. This practice, especially prevalent among women who are often responsible for cooking, leads to dangerous levels of indoor smoke pollution. Hundreds of harmful chemicals are produced during the incomplete combustion of biomass fuels in these households. The resulting emissions cause chronic respiratory diseases and pose severe health risks to both women and children.
Thankfully, our December Project of the Month Multi-Dimensional Resource Center, Nepal (MRC Nepal), is taking bold steps to create healthier kitchens across Nepal. They are tackling these harmful practices head-on by providing portable cook-stoves to 700 women. These stoves improve the efficiency of fuelwood combustion, reducing smoke and harmful emissions, directly improving the health of women and children in these communities.
In addition to providing stoves, MRC Nepal is raising awareness about environmentally friendly cooking technologies and offering long-term income opportunities, including fresh vegetable production. These efforts will improve health outcomes and empower women to achieve greater financial independence.
When CEO Bharat Bahadur Khadka learned that MRC Nepal was selected as December’s Project of the Month, he shared that this grant will greatly support the health and living standards of marginalized women and children. “It will help improve the lives of those most in need, offering not only cleaner cooking options but also an opportunity for economic empowerment through vegetable production,” he said.
We invite you to learn more about MRC Nepal’s impact by reading their latest project report posted two weeks ago. We are grateful for your generosity in supporting the health and livelihoods of women and children in Nepal.
Thank you for your commitment to a better world!
With gratitude,
