Dear Project of the Month Club,
Happy October! So many things to be thankful for this month--sweater weather, all things pumpkin, and of course, an update on the impact of your generous donations last month!
In September, 153 of you gave a combined total of $4,665 to a project by our friends at Mickaboo called "Rescue Unwanted and Abandoned Companion Birds" Here's what the Project Leader Pamela Lee wanted to share with you about your gift:
"With these increased numbers has come increased costs for avian veterinary care. Summer has ended, and Mickaboo has stretched itself to the limit to rescue the summer crop of pet birds that humans have left behind. Contributions by GlobalGiving donors have helped us to provide the care needed to save these innocent refugees and find them their forever homes."
We're also thrilled to share that, in October, your donations will be combined to benefit a project called "Birth Center Saves MotherBaby Lives in Philippines" by Mercy In Action. This gift could not come at a better time, as they are all digging out of a terrible flood that affected 90% of their city. Since the flood, more women than ever are coming in to deliver in their birth center. They're also staying longer afterward so they can keep dry and warm after childbirth!
Here’s what Project Leader Vicki Penwell had to say when we told her we decided to feature her project this month:
“As the only medical facility in our region of the Philippines to provide maternity care at no cost, Mercy In Action is honored to be featured as the Project of the Month. We reach out to poor and disenfranchised pregnant women and provide a place for them to have respectful, culturally sensitive and safe care during childbirth in our modern yet home-like birthing center.”
We look forward to more good news from the field in November! Thank you for your continued support. You’re what makes GlobalGiving so special.
Warmly,
Mari and the GlobalGiving Team
