Dear Project of the Month Club,
The temperature is dropping, the leaves are changing, and it is officially autumn in DC! At GlobalGiving, we’re gearing up for our busiest, most exciting (and generous) time of year. Thanksgiving is just around the corner, #GivingTuesday is coming up, and we just might be unveiling new gift card designs right in time for the holidays, so keep an eye out!
Speaking of unveiling exciting news: let’s see the extraordinary impact the Project of the Month club had this month.
In October, 226 of you gave a total of $7,259 to Puerta Abierta’s Give School to Abandoned Girls in Mexico project.Your donations will provide girls in Mexico with the quality education and skills they need to become successful, financially independent adults.
This November, your monthly donation will support Educate the Children’s Better Schools in Rural Nepal project, which has been committed to improving and rebuilding schools in Nepal for over 25 years! Since the 2015 earthquakes, the need to provide a safe space for children in Nepal to attend school is needed now more than ever.
Lisa Lyons, the U.S. Director of Educate the Children, has this message for you:
“Educate the Children (ETC) is very pleased to have been chosen as GlobalGiving's Project of the Month for 2015! We are very grateful to GlobalGiving and to all Project of the Month participants for your support. ETC has more than a quarter century of experience in improving the quality of education available to marginalized and impoverished children in Nepal. In addition to the improvement of physical facilities and the provision of useful supplies and classroom materials, ETC provides training and professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators, as well as financial support to cover school-related expenses for children from very poor families.”
So what can your donation do for Educate the Children? When we asked Lisa, she knew exactly how it will help:
“Every school in our current project area (a portion of Dolakha District of east central Nepal, with a population of some 12,000 people) was either destroyed or damaged to the point of being unsafe by the severe earthquakes of spring 2015. ETC supported the construction of temporary classrooms so that the children could return to school as quickly as possible. Rebuilding of permanent, quake-resistant facilities will take a long time. In the meanwhile, the temporary classrooms – many of which have no windows or even walls, much less sufficient supplies – will need to be improved so that they are suitable for use during all seasons. Support from the Project of the Month members will enable ETC to improve three temporary classrooms at primary schools in Dolakha villages, by making them more weatherproof and comfortable, and by providing each with additional classroom supplies and educational and recreational materials.”
We’re so proud to partner with earth-changing organizations like Educate the Children, who are committed to providing long-term support for years to come. Thank you so much for generosity and we cannot wait to share the positive change your donation will create next month!
Warmly,
Kevin + the GlobalGiving Team
