Busy as usual, as you know most of the stray cats may have Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). Therefore, taking care of cats with mouth ulcers caused by FIV is not easy at all. You know Tai O is an outlying island, for those FIV’s cats, we need to go back and forth to the city to do follow-up consultations and injections every other three-week. More than that, we need to pay attention to choose the right food for feeding them.
But when I see cats sick again or something happens due to their FIV, the feeling of not being able to help them is really uncomfortable. No matter what, we will do our best to take good care of them in Tai O. One of the FIV’s cats, his name is “Baby” and he was in so much pain that couldn’t eat; so I have to bring him to the hospital for observation. Hope he will feel better and recover soon.
Sickness and aging are issues for stray cats.
One day, Hei Zai suddenly had cramped all over his body; this scared me so much and therefore, we rushed him to the emergency room. He had stayed in the hospital for a few days, because his nose was completely blocked and needed a ventilator for breathing; but there was no more cramping on his body.
Finally, Hei Zai has returned to Tai O Stray Cat home because there was no more blocking of his nose and cramping; besides, he could eat food by himself. This is really relieved and one less case is needed for me to worry.
A few weeks ago, I haven’t seen the Granny (23 years old) for four or five days on the street; therefore, I checked with the neighbor who feeds her every day and found out that the Granny was getting hurt because she fell down from the first floor. The neighbor said she noticed the Granny dragged her hind feet, so that, the neighbor placed her in the cage (prevent her to walk around on the street) to feed her and let her to heal slowly by herself.
When I knew about the Granny was getting hurt, I brought her to the emergency room right away. After doing blood tests and X-ray, we found that she has a mild kidney failure and broken bone on both sides of her pelvis. She is better now and her hip is almost recovered, but she needs to stay at Tai O Stray Cat Home and can’t stay on the street anymore.
Recently, we received many abandon cases for elderly cats because their owners don’t want them due to their age, cannot catch mice, or cannot get on the plane (owners immigrate to overseas), and so on. I feel sorry for these elderly cats and I will do my best to take care of them.
As you can see due to sickness and aging problems in cats, we have lots of medical expenses for them, and thus, we need your donation to help our stray cats and abandon cats. Without your support and donation, we don’t think we can survive and go out to saving cats.
