Project Tai O Stray Cat

For the past few months, I have been busy as usual; there are always many sick and weak stray cats out there, and I would like to share the stories of Tommy-jai and Ah Huang.

Tommy-jai:

Recently, I noticed that Tommy-jai had lost weight, but his appetite was fine. Therefore, I took Tommy-jai to see a veterinarian (Vet) for a blood test and confirmed that he has mid-stage kidney disease. Because of this disease, we needed to give subcutaneous fluids to Tommy-jai. Besides, he needs to take kidney medicine and supplements every day. Moreover, his diet was changed to kidney-friendly cat food instead of normal cat food. For that particular visit to the Vet, Tommy-jai’s medical bill plus transportation fee was about HKD5,000.

For the second visit to the Vet, Tommy-jai needed to run the following tests; they are red and white blood cells, kidney index, electrolytes, and cardiac muscle enzymes. The results are as follows:

1. Red and white blood cells – Red blood cells fell a little bit, but within expectations, due to the kidney problems, he may need to have a blood transfusion when his red blood cells keep falling; white blood cells are high, while platelets are low (lower than last time).

2. Kidney Index – showed improvement

3. Electrolytes – showed improvement; potassium ions have gone back to normal levels.

4. Cardiac Muscle Enzymes – Normal

Ah Huang (Resided close to the Pump House at Shek Tsai Po Street):

Ah Huang has eye problems, and so he can barely see images. About a year ago, we caught him and brought him to the Tai O Stray Cat Home campus. Recently, we noticed Ah Huang had been drooling a lot, and therefore, we took him to the Vet for examination. Because of the results of the examination, the vet confirmed that Ah Huang had found that he has teeth decay and dissolution. For this particular month, medical expenses for Ah Huang and Tommy-jai were close to HKD20,000.

As you can see, due to the aging and sickness of stray cats, we have lots of expenses. Not only medical fees but also transportation fees; we really can’t stand it anymore due to limited donations. Once again, we would like to ask for your help with their medical and transportation expenses; we couldn’t last long without your support in saving cats.
