How your donation has helped Darartu

Thank you so much for donating to Project Harar's project to help 40 Ethiopian children have their lives changed for the better.

We would like to share with you the story of one of the children you have helped by donating to our Cleft Lip and Palate Programme.

Darartu is 12 years old and has been born with a cleft lip and palate. Four years ago she has been operated on her lip and now Project Harar treated her for her palate. It has changed her life for the better. Eating and speaking was really difficult for her. When she was enjoying a meal, the food kept coming out of her nose. Only her family could understand her and so she preferred to stay at home. She was afraid to speak at school and did not like to ask questions to teachers who often did not understand her. All the other children would laugh at her and insult her. But she is happy now that she had the operation. She can eat and drink whatever she likes; it does not come out of her nose anymore. The other children stopped laughing at her and she goes outside more than she usually does. She hopes to make friends soon and become a teacher.

A cleft surgery is simple and fast, and yet, is able to give children like Darartu a chance to a better future.

If you would like to know more about the work we do, then check us out on Twitter, Facebook, and our website.

Thank you again for your donation. From all of us at Project Harar, we are truly grateful.
