PROMOTE ACCESS TO JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN DRC

For vulnerable people living in rural communities across South Kivu, access to justice remains a daily struggle. Poverty, the distance from judicial institutions, legal costs, limited knowledge of the law, weak access to legal assistance, and human rights violations continue to prevent many people from seeking justice or defending their rights. Our project, Promote Access to Justice and Human Rights in DRC, was created in response to this reality. It aims to bring essential legal information and support closer to communities that are too often excluded from the formal justice system, while strengthening the capacity of local actors to promote human rights and the rule of law.

The project has a total fundraising target of $30,000, and we have so far raised $73 through our collaboration with GlobalGiving. Although this represents only the beginning of our fundraising journey, every contribution is meaningful because it demonstrates that people around the world believe that justice should be accessible to everyone. Our team has been working on the preparation of the project, including the identification of qualified trainers and potential learners who will take part in capacity-building activities. The resources raised will help us move from preparation to implementation and support activities such as training community paralegals, providing basic legal assistance to vulnerable people, supporting communities in understanding their rights, and strengthening collaboration among justice-sector stakeholders.

Behind every statistic is a person who deserves to be heard. A woman facing an injustice, a young person who does not know where to seek legal protection, a family unable to afford legal assistance, or a person detained without adequate knowledge of their rights may simply need information and someone to stand beside them. Our vision is to help make that support available within the communities where people live. We are therefore calling on individual donors, foundations, organizations and international partners to join us in reaching our $30,000 goal. Through the support of our donors and our collaboration with GlobalGiving, we believe this goal is achievable. Every donation, regardless of its size, can contribute to bringing justice, dignity and hope closer to vulnerable people in South Kivu.
