Funding challenges to continue working with adolescent girls
By lamnatu Adam | project Leader
Dear GlobalGiving Team,
Songtaba is very excited working with young adolescents in promoting safe spaces for their growth and empowerment. However, we have not been able to actively work with these groups of children during the period under review because the project has not been able to attarct donations to support the activites of the young adolescents. All plan activities were suspended due to the financial constraints.
It has been a little challenging to get the project promoted to attract donations and that was one of the challenges Songtaba team reported to the GlobalGiving monitoring team that visited Songtaba in September.
working with adolescents especially girls is a core part of our programming but the funding has been one of our biggest challenge in recent time. however, we have not stopped but still monitoring the previous interventions to ensure the sustainability of the project gains

Girls' Empowerment Increasing day by day
By Lamnatu Adam | Team Leader
Murijana leading a campaign
Hello Cherished Donors!
Songtaba is happy to inform you about the great things happening in Nanumba with regards to our project on "Empowering Girls in School." This quarter we focused attention on the Our lady of Peace Basic School Girls club where their activities led to the election of their club president as the assistant school prefect.
The girls club in this school through their capacity building activities is challenging the statusquo of boys always occupying the senior prefect position in the school. For the second in a series a girls club member has been elecetd as the assistant senior prefect of the school. in an interview with Murijana she had this say
My name is Murijana I am in JHS2. I have been a girls club members since my class four and rose to be the president of the girls club. my active participation in the activities of the girls clubs has brough me this far as the assistant senior prefect. It all start when we had a discussion of leadership in our club meeting and from there many of the members of the girls club said i have most of the qualities to lead as the senior prefect of the school and when the time come, I should consider myself a candidate fir the position of senior prefect which has always been reserved for boys. I was a bit sceptical ffom the innitial stages but with the support and encouragement of my colleagues i finally decided to contest for the senior prefect and after the voting I placed second and that ended me the spot of the assistant senior prefect. I am happy because today I am a girl able to secure the positin of assitant senior prefect, I believe tomorrow a girl will occupy the senior prefect position
From the story above, it is refreshing to realise that girls empowerment is increasing day by day in a typically male dominated society. Girls through their groups are building protective mechanisms to champion their interest and this is yielding some positive results and this is possible through the support of donors who contribute to support these girls clubs run their capacity and confidence building activities.
