Menstruation is a taboo subject in Burkina Faso. Mother do not talk about it to their daughter. When the menstruations come it is a chock for the girls.
We have conducted awareness meeting in 4 primary schools for girls aged 11 to 14.
Not easy to have the girls open to talk about a taboo subject. When asked in the first village if some of the girls had their menstruations, nobody answered. Then the person doing leading the meeting said that there is a gift for those with menstruation. Only then girls dared to raise their hand.
The "lecture" used is the one developped by the association Days for Girls. Even the female teacher learned during the presentation.
We cannot be in the villages all the time. We haev appointyed one of the female teacher for the follow up on the presentation.
Part of the program is also to provide girls with a washable protection also developped by days for Girls and produced in Burkina Faso by the association Actions pour les Besoins des Femmes (ABF).
Those kits will allow girls to stay in school at time of menstruation, to have a better hygiene and a better self esteem.
Help us to do more of those cessions in primary schools and to distribute more kits of protection.
Thank you
