Since 2016, the association "Actions pour les Besoins des Femmes" (ABF) has opened a sewing workshop in Bobo Dioulasso to produce kits of protection for menstruation.
ABF employs 5 people (4 women and 1 man). The produced kits are following the model from the US association "Days for Girls" (DFG).
The material not available in Burkina is bought in at the regional office of DFG in Ghana, mainly the PUL.
ABF is a non profit organisation. It has to produce quality protections at the lowest cost. ABF has the golden standard from DFG.
The protection kits can last 3 years if they are well maintain.
Most of the women / girls in Burkina Faso do not have cash to buy diposable protections. Their solution is to use rags. Rags are not really protecting the woman / girl, it is not hygienic, and it is not discreet.
We are trying to subsidies kits of protection to as many women / girls as possible. This give them peace of mind and no lost of self esteem. Girls do not miss school during their periods.
We are very grateful for all the help we can get to reach our goal of 2.000 women / girls getting a quality washable protection for their menstruation.
Thank you.
