In January we got a large donation which has helped us to provide information about menstruation in a primary school in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.
They were close to 150 girls at this meeting and we were able to distribute 120 washable protection kits.
This type of presentation which gives detail about the reproductive organs of girl, was followed with a lot of interest even in the crowded conditions it was given.
All the female teachers of the schools also attended and some said they learned new things.
When taught in class by the teacher, not much information is given bacause of lack of knowledge but also because of the sensitive aspect of this subject.
For a lot of people menstruation is still a taboo and they will avoid to talk about it. The teachers were very grateful that we came to give this lecture.
The problem is that each year new girls get their periods and many will not have the information which help them avoid trauma, shame when their periods starts.
Access to proper protection is also an issue.
Thank you for your support to provide girls washable protection for menstruation.
