Empowerment of girls starts with education. In the country side of Burkina, parents have a lot of children. Since girls are destined to be married education is not a priority.
A lot of girls who starts primary school will not finish it. One of the main difficulty for a girl to follow the school is the lack of proper protection for menstruation.
A girls might miss a full week per month of school during her period. The fear of getting blood stains on her cloth because of bad protection make that the girl is not attentive to the lecture even if physically in the class. Loss of self esteem does not help her to be performant.
A girls in the country side has to fight several battles in order to get an education: convince the parents that her objective is not to get married immediatly and to have the menstruation protection which will help her succeed in school.
Washable menstruation protections can be available for the girls in the rural areas with your help. They last up to 3 years and make a huge difference for the girls who can have them.
