Across Abuja, many children face physical and sexual abuse and are left without shelter or protection. This project by Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research will establish a safe house that offers emergency accommodation, counseling, and basic medical care for abused and abandoned children. The shelter will provide food, education support, and legal aid to help them recover, rebuild confidence, and begin a new path toward safety and dignity.
Many children in Abuja experience violence, neglect, or sexual abuse at home or in the streets. When they flee these unsafe environments, they have nowhere to turn for protection. Some are trafficked or forced into labor. There are few shelters offering care or legal support. Without a safe home, these children continue to suffer trauma, hunger, and exploitation, with no access to help or rehabilitation.
The project will provide immediate shelter and care to abused and abandoned children. Trained caregivers and counselors will offer emotional support and help them recover from trauma. Each child will receive food, clothing, and access to education. The shelter will also work with social welfare offices to reunite children with safe families or place them in long-term care, ensuring their continued safety and development.
The safe house will restore dignity, safety, and hope to abused children. With stable shelter, medical care, and counseling, they can begin healing and return to school. The project will also raise awareness about child protection and strengthen community response against abuse. Helping each rescued child rebuild their life will reduce street homelessness and create a safer, more compassionate environment in Abuja.
