Safe Motorcycle Training for Safer Worker Commutes

By Katelyn Sullivan | Development and Communications Coordinator

In Cambodia, vehicle ownership has increased by 397% (2009-2022) – with motorcycles making up 85% of vehicles on the road. Moreover, motorcycles are now the primary mode of transportation for many Cambodian workers, including garment and footwear factory workers during their trips to and from work each day. However, motorcycle riders also accounted for 79% of all traffic fatalities, contributing to the global road safety crisis.

To help make these journeys safer, AIP Foundation partnered with Honda N.C.X Cambodia to deliver a full-day Training-of-Trainers workshop on safe motorcycle driving for factory representatives. The workshop was made possible with support provided by the FIA Foundation.

Hosted on February 25 at the University of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, the workshop allowed participants to explore key road safety principles, practice safe riding techniques, and discuss practical ways to promote responsible driving behaviors within their workplaces. By preparing factory representatives to share this knowledge with their colleagues, the training helped to expand the reach of life-saving safety messages beyond the classroom. In total, 67 participants joined the workshop, taking an important step toward safer commuting for garment and footwear factory workers across the country.

AIP Foundation will continue to educate, advocate, and invest in safe mobility for Cambodian youth. Visit us here and follow us to learn more about our work and receive the latest updates.
