Thank you for choosing to support our work to protect India’s tigers and promote co-existence.
The new financial year brought with it new opportunities for our Satpuda Landscape Tiger Partnership (SLTP) colleagues to implement conservation initiatives in Central India, and share learnings from the field.
Yashvardhan Dalmia, Network Support Consultant for SLP reports directly from India about the latest developments in our efforts to protect tigers.
Embarking on new initiatives and continuing existing ones with renewed energy:
Fresh from the SLTP Annual Seminar in March 2022, where teams got the opportunity to present the work and share learnings, SLTP partners have continued their on-ground conservation initiatives from April through to June. Relaxation of COVID-19 regulations has allowed many projects to restart their community-based conservation work. This included medical camps, nature conservation awareness programs for schools, sustainable livelihood training, human-wildlife conflict mitigation programs and provision of assistance to forest staff. It’s great to see these initiatives in action again!
New social media pages and a newsletter launch
In order to regularly share stories, testimonials and updates from the field with our supporters and well-wishers, dedicated SLTP Instagram and Facebook pages have now been launched. This is really important in getting our message across to a global audience. A quarterly SLTP newsletter is also in the works, which will enhance awareness of our projects and celebrate some inspirational success stories. We can’t wait to get this up and running to share them with you too!
Conservation Hero Award Presented
The SLTP partners selected Dr. Gajanan D Muratkar for this year’s SLTP Conservation Hero Award for his invaluable grassland conservation efforts in the Central Indian landscape. This award is presented to grassroots-level conservationists as a mark of recognition for their invaluable conservation work in Central India. Congratulations to a tiger hero!
Exhibition for camera trap images captured by students
SLTP partner Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) organized an exhibition showcasing camera trap images captured by school students living in buffer and fringe areas of Tiger Reserves.
This exhibition was a result of BNHS’ conservation awareness programs which helps students to learn about new technologies, like camera traps, which are widely used in conservation to monitor individual animals, population figures and activity in the field. It was a big win for the team as such activities encourage students to get involved in conservation and learn more about their surrounding environment and wildlife, including tigers of course!
Thank you for your continued support for this vital conservation programme.
