2024 Impact Report

I am delighted to share our 2024 Impact Report with you, highlighting the incredible difference your generosity has made over the past year. Thanks to your support, Pelorus Foundation's vital conservation efforts across Africa and Asia have continued to grow, protecting endangered wildlife, tackling illegal poaching, restoring ocean biodiversity, and strengthening our climate through innovative carbon removal projects.

In the attached report, you’ll find updates about our local project partners, including on page seven, the vital work of Oceans Alive in Kenya.

Over the past year, your support has helped ensure Oceans Alive can continue to improve local marine conservation, whilst supporting the livelihoods of the local community.  During 2024 the world experienced a mass bleaching of coral due to global warming. Sadly, this included coral dying along the Kenya coast.

Thankfully, our local project partner, Oceans Alive actively works to grow new coral through their coral garden nurseries.  Since 2019 they have planted 15,000 new corals. Along with the  protection of the unique waters in the Kuruwitu marine protected area, a significant amount of coral damage has been mitigated, and the coral garden is helping to ensure coral can continue to grow and flourish in the local waters.

During the year your donations have helped to fund a special citizen science pilot research project. This project trained 10 local community members in specialist research skills to enable local people to help with new data gathering of local marine biodiversity. Following the success of this pilot project, the research will be rolled out to gather full data on the ongoing positive effects of the local marine protected area, ten years on from the last research impact assessment.

I do hope you enjoy reading our full Impact Report and seeing the real difference your ongoing support is helping to achieve. We couldn’t do it without you.

Thank you.
