Women and girls in rural Tororo, Uganda, face gender-based violence, including domestic abuse, sexual violence, and harmful practices. Poverty, stigma, and limited access to support services can prevent survivors from seeking help. This project will educate communities, connect survivors to safe and confidential support, strengthen referral pathways, and empower women to understand their rights. Together, we can help women live safely, recover with dignity, and build a future free from violence.
Gender-based violence threatens the safety, dignity, and well-being of women and girls in rural Tororo. Survivors may face physical injuries, emotional trauma, financial dependence, social stigma, and fear of reporting abuse. Limited awareness of legal rights and available services can leave women without timely assistance. Poverty and unequal power relations may make escaping abusive situations especially difficult.
This project will prevent gender-based violence in rural Tororo through community education, women's rights awareness, and survivor-centered support. We will engage local leaders, men, youth, and community groups to challenge harmful attitudes and promote respectful relationships. Women and girls will receive information on where to seek confidential help, while survivors will be referred to appropriate health, psychosocial, legal, and protection services.
This project aims to build safer communities where women and girls understand their rights, know where to seek help, and can live without fear of violence. Continued awareness, stronger referral networks, and community involvement will encourage early reporting and improve access to support. Women's increased confidence and economic opportunities can strengthen their ability to make informed choices.
