Background during the implementation of the project: Lebanon is affected by the Syrian Crises as refugees from Syria: Palestinian and Syrian were directed towards different areas of Lebanon, knowing the biggest number of Palestinian refugees was displaced to the Palestinian camps, thus over the crowdedness they receive the big portion of the PRS. During a crisis, Naba’a directs all of its resources and attention to the community in need. All other programs and activities are put on hold so that the Emergency Program, and the response required, becomes our sole focus. Through this program we implement a Rapid Needs Assessment to ascertain the urgent requirements on the ground. Our interventions and actions are directed by this assessment to ensure that they are as effective as possible. The most highlighted findings of the assessment (Jan 2014) are;
- 51,057 individuals are displaced in Lebanon.
- 80% of the PRS families are living in rented shelters, where 24% of the families are living in non- suitable garages. 53% of them are living in bad shelter conditions.
- 44.87% are women headed their families.
- 90% of the women are stressed and practicing against their children.
- 80% of the women have one piece of clothes inner and outer.
- 85% of the women have a need to washing tools to make condition of their clothes better as the homes are not very healthy, also they declared their need to closet as they put their clothes in cartoons which makes them musty.
- 90% of the families are lacking the equilibrium meal needed for healthy development of the children.
Process of the project implementation; To prevent outbreaks of disease during a crisis, One time personal hygiene materials and detergent supplies were provided to 130 Palestinian displaced families from Syria who sheltered inside Ein El Helweh Palestinian refugee camp and the gathering. Knowing that, before the distribution process, two actions were done, the first one is the orientation for the project objectives to the team and the local reference, and the second one is related to the data collection for the most marginalized families who are in need for the Hygiene kits.
Summary of the main achievements; The project is targeting 130 Palestinian refugees families who are displaced from Syria to Ein El Helweh Palestinian refugee camp and un official gatherings, who are the most marginalized groups among refugees by providing them with the Hygiene kits.
Process of achievements;
- Two Focus groups were achieved with the displaced women in order to address their priorities regarding the Hygiene kits.
- Based on Women recommendation, through the Focus group with them, the Hygiene kits including the followings
- After opening the door for the suppliers by an invitation three attended interesting in supplying the hygienic kit.
- The selection committee discussed the offers and selected one supplier, where the contract with supplier is signed including the quality of the materials and the dates of providing it. In addition, a receipt is signed by each household showing the detailed items,
- Distributing the personal Hygiene kits for the 130 displaced Palestinian refugee families (1st Distribution was on the 20th and 25th of November for 50 displaced Palestinian families), while the 2nd distribution was between 15th February and 15th March 2014 for 60 displaced Palestinian families. Where the families were informed by the dates and the time of receiving the kits at Naba’a center inside Ein El Helweh camp and un official gatherings
List of the Hygiene Kit; Hygienic pads/ 4 piece/private, Soap, Shampoo 2 Liter, Shaving cream, Disposable Razors, Sterilized Alcohol, Detergent Dettol bottle/ 500 ml, Washing Powder, Gloves for toileting / national products, Plastic Jar/ 1.5 liter, Water Bucket, Wiper, Floor Cloth, Broom.
Measurable Indicators of the main achievements;
- 80% of the families stated that this aid was essential for them because no organization has provided such a kit before. This kit contains some of their basic needs. In addition, 40% of the families said they were glad they received such an aid, because it helped keeping the house clean.
- Regarding the length of the period during which the hygiene kit served the beneficiaries, 60% of the families stated that the kit items were enough for 15 days, 20% of the families stated that the kit items were enough for less than 15 days, and 10% of the families stated that the kit items was enough for one week only.
- The families judged the quality of the aid as very good.
