Let's protect the women from sex trafficking

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear Friend,

We bring to you our latest updates on “Protecting women from sex trafficking in Mumbai”. Firstly, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for all the wonderful help you have given to us through this Project which has helped hundreds of women to be set free from the bondage of sex trafficking and be empowered and understood.

Human trafficking is a heinous crime that affects millions of individuals, particularly women and children, around the world. It's important to spread awareness and encourage women to stand against this injustice because “every woman deserves to live a life free from exploitation and fear."

To help women free from this bondage,  we at El Shaddai have started the Rena Project, which is a huge blessing to the women living in Mumbai's Red light areas. Through Rena Project women are empowered with skill development programs, vocational training in tailoring where they learn to make beautiful bags, dresses, and other ethnic wear. The mothers are given counselling and are encouraged to enroll their children in our El Shaddai Home, and send them to school. The newly opened Rena Home has presently 15 children enrolled. These children will now have a safe and secure place to live.

We have a story of a woman named Radha (Name changed) who hailed from Nepal. She came to Mumbai with her fiancé to gain employment. But to her dismay, he betrayed her and trafficked her to the Red light area in Turbe, Mumbai. Without her consent, she was forcefully dragged into this nightmare. She became so helpless. She ran away and was about to commit suicide but then she met one of our outreach workers at a medical camp which was held at our community centres. They rescued her from that traumatic place where her life was almost ruined. She was informed about the vocational training that was conducted there. She decided to join these programs and found an interest in tailoring. She learnt the skill so well that she is now able to get her orders. She decided to take this tailoring skill as her career and step out into a world full of hopes and dreams.

Many such girls and women just want a helping hand and change their lives for the better.  It is through the unwavering support and commitment of sponsors like you that we can continue to uplift and empower women in our community.

Women's Empowerment will help women to break the chains of slavery and experience freedom in its true sense. Let's continue to stand together and fight against human trafficking.

With gratitude
