The recent field visit by International Blue Cross (IBC) to Arusha highlighted the significant strides made by Blue Cross Society of Tanzania (BCST) in combating youth alcohol and other drug use. Through life skills training, community engagement, and strong partnerships with local schools and authorities, BCST’s initiatives are creating a noticeable impact. Schools reported a reduction in student substance use, and parents shared how the program has positively influenced their families.
Meetings with local education and health officials reinforced the importance of expanding these initiatives, particularly by incorporating more sports and peer education into prevention strategies.
Young leaders shared powerful testimonies of personal growth and community impact, demonstrating the far-reaching effects of the program. The peer educators emphasized the importance of ongoing training to stay updated with recent facilitation methods and enhance their effectiveness in the field. Looking forward, BCST plans to strenghten its outreach and provide ongoing training to peer educators.
Young leaders are making a difference in their communities by sharing knowledge and promoting healthy lifestyles. One peer educator shared, "Being part of BCST has changed my life. I’ve learned new skills, gained confidence, and now, I’m helping others make better choices." These peer educators are not just spreading awareness—they’re leading by example and creating a ripple effect of positive change in their communities. With ongoing training and support, their impact will only grow.
Thank you for all you do to support and strenghten this amazing project!
