It's time to learn to swim

By Rebecca | Asia Conservation Volunteer

Dear Supporters,

It's time for us to update you and it's the best time too! The Hawsbill and Green Turtles are very common off the coast of Thailand and Asia and although they are known to nest all year around May to July is most certainly the peak time and this year is no different.

We are so lucky to do the work we do with your support and to see these incredible new hatchlings coming into our world and finally getting in the ocean to start their new life. Sadly even though we are at the start of this peak season we can have seen an alarming number of hatchlings getting washed back up. This is the majority ingesting mirco-plastics when they first get into the ocean to learn to swim.

Sadly without our intervention once washed up these little new hatchlings will die or someone will throw them back into the ocean but being sick and lost they also will not make it. We rescue these hatchlings, take them back to the centre, monitor the plastic that they release and then well enough we help them to learn to dive and swim so when they are strong enough (around 9 months) we can release them safely back into the ocean.

Every turtle we save costs around $4,000 for the total 9 months of their treatment starting and this can go up if they have eaten too much plastic and need specialist support. It's an expensive project and the only people that make this happen is you! We really do value your support to help these amazingly stunning turtles alive and swimming for another day

Thank You,

Becky
