Subject : Project report Protection of people against Lightning Killer
In recent months, Burundi, in the middle of the rainy season, has been hit by storms of rare violence, accompanied by lightning with sometimes devastating effects. Last March, four people were killed by lightning in the commune of Buganda in the northwest of the country.
Six people were killed by lightning Thursday afternoon in a commune in northern Burundi, save Life Make Difference learned Friday from a local police source.
“The six people who died from lightning were in three houses located on Nyagatovu hill, six others were seriously injured,” the Provincial Police Commissioner in Ngozi, Edouard Mukoko, told the local newspaper Jimbere on Friday.
According to the Police Commissioner, the injured were transported “to the Mashitsi Health Center”, near the scene of the tragedy.

Disasters linked to climatic hazards are, moreover, a national concern in Burundi.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), floods, landslides and other disasters affected 13 of Burundi's 18 provinces between October 2019 and October 2020.
