Rangers to the rescue!

The last few months of our Cardamom Forest Protection Program have been full of activity. From August to October 2025, our ranger teams worked tirelessly across the Cardamom Rainforest Landscape and:

  • Conducted 1,579 patrols
  • Covered over 55,000 kilometers
  • Removed 14,949 snares
  • Rescued 61 live animals

In September, rangers conducted a patrol in Anlong Reab commune. The team found 8 illegal logging camps, a motorbike, a dead wild pig, a dead Sambar deer and 106 snares. The camp and snares were removed and confiscated for impound at the station, alongside the motorbike. In October, another patrol in Anlong Reab resulted in the confiscation of 4 lines of electric snares, 3 illegal logging camps, 2 homemade guns, 1 illegal chainsaw and 4 wildlife snares. Again, the camps were removed and other evidence was confiscated for impound at the station.

As part of the patrols, rangers often rescue live wildlife who are being illegally traded or kept as pets. In the last few months, rangers rescued pangolins, Asian leaf turtles, elongated tortoises and civets. Whenever possible, the animals are either released back into their natural habitat or taken to Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre for rehabilitation. Rangers also successfully freed a red muntjac found trapped in a snare.

Lastly, in October rangers stopped and confiscated a slow boat that was illegally transporting 1.18m³ of construction timber. In total, 30.73³ of timber has been seized in the last few months. This forest crime is still rampant in the Cardamom Rainforest Landscape and ranger patrols continue to play a crucial role in disrupting these activities and protecting the forest.

                                     Thank you for your support!

This critical work is only possible because of your generosity. As we close out 2025, we reflect on the importance of supporters like you that help us ensure that endangered Cambodian wildlife are protected. We wish you a joyful holiday season.
