198 counseling sessions, 350 hours, in 3 months!

Our new counseling room

Social Counseling Statistics From January to April:198 counseling sessions that add up to a total of 350 hours.

Our staff has been busy supporting survivors with counseling sessions and prioritizing their mental health as well as their relationship with their family.

One example is of a 16-year-old boy who was deceived into producing child sexual abuse material and then coerced into distributing it. The suspect who targeted him was arrested in this case but most child victims of child sexual abuse material tend to remain silent in order to avoid telling their parents about what happened. Sometimes, all they need is someone to simply listen to them and to know that people will be there to fight along side them.

At first, the survivor wanted to delete all the clips that were sent out without telling anyone else. After speaking more with our staff, he felt comfortable enough to open up and ask for help. He made the decision that he wanted to tell his parents.

After our staff spoke with his parents, he was relieved but his parents were still shocked and they blamed themselves. They relaized they did not spend much time with him and wanted to search for ideas on how they can foster a better and more open relationship with each other. After exchanging ideas with our staff, they have grown even closer as a family unit. They recently updated us and have been doing many activities together, spending less time on screens, and growing closer every day. The survivor said that he’s overall felt much better because he and his family are close now.

Our counseling room is also finished! We have it filled with teddy bears, cozy pillows, and toys to make sure it’s a child-friendly environment. This room is a safe space for children to open up and feel that they will be heard and supported along the way.

Thank you for supporting the HUG Project and our staff to ensure that we can give the best support for child survivors. Sometimes, it can be overwhelming and hard for our staff but when we see children healing and families growing closer, it makes it all worth it to us.
