The Importance of the Food Box Program

By Catherine Sealys | President

Our food box initiative, facilitated through fundraising efforts on GlobalGiving.org, aims to support victims of gender-based violence by providing essential groceries. This program involves the bulk purchase of various food items and essential daily needs, which are then repackaged into individual food boxes tailored to support the dietary and hygienic needs of the beneficiaries and their families.

We have successfully utilized the funds raised through GlobalGiving.org to procure a variety of staple and essential items wholesale over the last three years. These include both perishable and non-perishable food items along with basic hygiene products, ensuring a comprehensive support package for each recipient family.

Over the past three (3) months, the program has made a significant impact:

Families Assisted- Twenty One (21)

Total Beneficiaries: Two Hundred & Sixty Three (263) person in 21 households including both direct and indirect beneficiaries

Contents of the Food Box

Each food box is thoughtfully packed with the following items to ensure nutritional balance and hygiene:

Food Items

Flour, sugar, rice, oats, cornmeal, milk, tuna fish, sausages (frozen and canned), oil, ketchup, pasta, ramen, and locally sourced chicken parts.

Hygiene Products

Toothbrush, toilet paper, toothpaste, and soap powder.

Support for Mothers with Babies

Our initiative extends special support to mothers with babies among the families affected by gender-based violence. Recognizing the unique needs of infants and young children, we provide targeted assistance to ensure that these vulnerable groups receive the care and nutrition they need during their formative years.

This specialized support is crucial not only for the immediate health benefits to the infants but also for alleviating the financial and logistical pressures on mothers recovering from gender-based violence. By providing these essential items, we help mothers focus more on healing and less on the financial strain of procuring baby supplies.

Ongoing Efforts and Appeals

We continue to reach out to both current and potential donors to secure further support for this crucial program. The ongoing contributions are vital for sustaining our efforts and expanding our reach to more families in need.

The food box program has been pivotal in providing necessary aid to victims of gender-based violence, offering not just food security but also a semblance of normalcy and dignity during challenging times. We are committed to continuing this program and appeal to the generosity of our supporters to maintain and enhance our impact.

As we proceed, we will keep focusing on optimizing the content of the boxes to meet the evolving needs of our beneficiaries and exploring more efficient logistics to extend our reach. We are grateful for the ongoing support and look forward to making a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve.
