In the remote fishing village of Rinca within Komodo National Park, families still rely on rainwater and fishing in unsafe boats for their survival. This project, in partnership with our long-time friends at Yellow Boat of Hope, aims to provide clean water filters to the remaining homes in the village and sponsor a local fisherman with a safe, well-equipped boat. Together, we hope to improve daily life, safety, and sustainability for the entire community.
Rinca's residents face daily hardships. With no reliable water source, families must travel 1.5-2 hours by boat to fetch clean water. Their old fishing boats, essential for food and income, are often unsafe and difficult to maintain. Despite these challenges, fishermen continue to risk their lives to provide for their families and community. Half the village still lacks access to clean water, and unsafe boats limit livelihoods and threaten lives.
We will complete Yellow Boat's mission by supplying water filters to the remaining homes in Rinca and providing one fisherman with a safe new boat and essential supplies. This ensures every family has access to clean, reliable drinking water. Moreover it improves safety and productivity for local fishermen who commit themselves to transporting children to school. We will also document the entire process through a short film to connect donors directly to the impact they make.
Our twofold approach, direct aid & storytelling, creates lasting, measurable impact. Clean water access will improve community health for years, and a new boat will ensure children's access to school while supporting a fisherman's safety & livelihood. By sharing this story through a short documentary, we'll help Yellow Boat inspire future "Adopt a Fisherman" initiatives & expand sustainable change across Indonesia's coastal communities.
