The full scale of the earthquake disaster in Nepal is slowly unfolding as the more remote areas and villages are reached. Working alone is not an option and it is essential that organisations work together to maximise the effort. The Nepal Trust is working with the Nidan Hospital and an associate group of organisations to deliver emergency help. We are also working with the Integrated Self-Help Association for Rural Development (ISARD) to reach more areas and create more collaboratve linkages. The new areas include the VDCs of Bharabise, Toutali, Pangretar, Karthali, Ghorthali, Dhuskum, Chokati, Piskar, Thumpakhal. We have recently sent:
128 greenhouse plastics for shelter and food production.
3000kg of rice.
42 tarpaulins for schools, healthposts and community centres.
For now the priority remains the urgent need to provide roofing and shelter before the onset of the monsoon. A collaborative meeting on 4 June between a number of donors in the area will plan and coordinate the long-term rehabilitation operation.
