Project Report | Oct 13, 2016
Water is Life.

Government bureaucracy slows progress in this remote country. Fortunately local people are anxious to get some semblance of their original lives back as quickly as possible and are prepared to work hard to achieve this. Community participation is a key element in all that the Nepal Trust is trying to achieve.

We are happy to report that construction of the new school in Tarkegjang village, Helambu VDC has started and we hope to report rapid progress over the next few months. Progress and photos will be published in later reports.

A new water and irrigation supply system is under construction in Kiul VDC which will benefit up to 1500 people. The project was visited very recently by UK and Dutch donors who were very pleased with what they saw.

Many schools in the same VDC were destroyed in the earthquake and the Nepal Trust will provide temporary repairs to the school in Kiul, using GG and other funds, to get the children back to a safe environment for their studies. We are currently looking for a suitable and safe site to build a completely new school constructed to earthquake proof standards.

Rotarians from the UK have visited project sites in Sindalpulchowk that they helped to fund. These included water/irrigation schemes and electricity repairs. They left very happy and impressed with what they had seen.

The Trust will continue to focus on education and infrastructure development. This puts the support systems back in place so that local businesses can recover more quickly. Jobs and livelihoods are important for the local economy and the health of the communities.

We will continue to report progress and let you know what is being achieved. The earthquake seems a long while ago, and has been overtaken by other disasters around the world, but it is still very relevant to many thousands of hill people living close to the breadline. Thank you so much for all your support and we hope you will continue to support our work which is making a difference and getting life back to some normality.

Happy Dasain.
