Animal Update: new homes and new arrivals

Last year, we accomplished a great deal in the Wildlife Orphanage and we hope the coming year is even more successful! In 2017, we released 13 animals into the wild: 5 squirrels, 1 brown snake eagle, 3 jackals (unfortunately two returned) and 6 mongooses. Although it was hard saying goodbye, we had 34 new animals arrive at DAKTARI! We welcomed meerkats, wood owls, mongooses, squirrels, a steppe buzzard and Molly the bush pig! Most of these animals were brought to us by animal rehabilitation centers and members of the local community.

This month we have already taken in four new squirrels and an orphaned chick called Chiquito!

Over the holiday period, we have spent time renovating some of our animal enclosures. Our rabbit enclosure has been completely updated creating a larger and more natural space for the rabbits to live in. We have also introduced a new diet plan for most of the animals thanks to the knowledge and guidance of our new Animal Assistant, Marina.

These changes would not be possible without you and your tremendous support. From all of our beautiful animals we are sending you a huge thank you for keeping them fed and happy!
