Summary

Asthma and severe respiratory infections affect thousands of children in Nigeria each year. Many poor families cannot pay for inhalers, hospital visits, or nebulization therapy, leaving children gasping for breath during attacks. This project will provide free breathing treatment through nebulization for 300 children from low income families. Medical staff will administer treatment and guide parents on early signs of respiratory distress and when to seek care.

Challenge

Respiratory illness remains a major cause of child illness in Nigeria. The World Health Organization reports that asthma affects millions of children worldwide, and access to treatment remains low in many low income communities. In Nigeria many families cannot afford inhalers or hospital care. When asthma attacks occur children struggle to breathe and may face severe complications without quick treatment.

Solution

The project will provide free breathing treatment using nebulizers for children who cannot afford care. Medical staff will identify children through community clinics and provide treatment during respiratory attacks. The program will also supply medication used for breathing treatment. A dedicated phone number will allow parents to call anytime a child struggles to breathe so help can be arranged quickly. Parents will also receive guidance on early warning signs and when to seek care.

Long-Term Impact

Providing free breathing treatment can prevent severe asthma attacks and reduce hospital admissions among children in poor communities. Early treatment also lowers the risk of complications linked to respiratory distress. As more families learn to recognize symptoms and seek care quickly, more children will stay healthy enough to attend school and live safer daily lives.
