A Story of Daglu......!!

Namaste Everyone! My name is Daglu (Name Changed), I am 11 years old and I live in a remote slum. I used to roam everyday and find garbage as by doing this I am able to earn and purchase something I want. Me and my friends start walking from the morning and then collect garbage and whenever we earn something we purchase food for us and start eating and there are also times when we are even not able to have food. I used to bath after four to five days when my mother used to scold me and I always forget to brush my teeth. This is because many times there are things missing/ empty, the things like toothpaste, brush, mug, bucket, hair oil etc. So I used to start my day with whatever I had.

One day a didi (hindi word to say for elder Sister) came to our slum and gathered all the children from the slums at one location. Then they also asked our parents to come and sit near their program. They brought hygiene kit for us in which tooth paste, tooth brush, mug, bucket, hair oil, comb etc hygiene things were included. They gave these hygiene kits to me and all other slum children and then they explained the importance of hygiene in our life as it could protect us from many diseases. Then they told all of us to brush our teeth and wash our hands, legs and faces before eating as they brought refreshments for us also. They also told us about the importance of education as it could change our way of living.

I got to know about the hygiene practices which I must adopt daily in order to be healthy so I started to follow all the hygiene practices as now I had everything necessary to take proper hygiene. Also my friends who used to not follow any hygiene practices earlier like me are now following the hygiene practices as the didi said. Our parents also are now more vigilant about us as they came to know about the adverse effects of not following hygiene practices daily. So our parents now make sure that we are doing whatever the didi said. Also my father went to the local school for my admission at the school so I have also started preparing for my test at the school as I also want to become someone special like the Didi of RSKS India.

Once again thank you so much for your valuable Support.

Many Regards
