Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan (RSKS India) carried out a compassionate humanitarian initiative during the monsoon season by distributing 500 umbrellas to street and slum children across 20 vulnerable slum communities. For children living without secure shelter, the rains bring illness, missed school, and daily hardship. This simple but powerful intervention provided not only physical protection from heavy rainfall but also restored a sense of safety, dignity, and care in their young lives.
Alongside the distribution, our field team conducted awareness sessions with children and slum families on preventing monsoon related diseases, maintaining hygiene, identifying early signs of illness, and protecting children’s health during the rainy season. These sessions strengthened community knowledge and empowered families to take practical steps to safeguard their children’s wellbeing. The combination of material support and health education ensured that this project delivered lasting impact, not just temporary relief.
Among the many children reached was 9 year old Raju (Name Changed), who lives in one of the slums where our team visited. Every morning during the rains, Raju walked barefoot to school through flooded lanes, often arriving soaked and shivering. When he received his bright blue umbrella, his face lit up. The next day, he proudly walked to school holding it high, smiling despite the rain. His mother later told RSKS team, “Now my child does not fall sick so often, and he is happy to go to school.” For Raju, this umbrella was more than protection from rain it was protection for his dreams.
Because of your generosity, 500 children like Raju now face the monsoon with confidence instead of fear. Parents feel reassured, children feel valued, and communities feel supported.
