Dear Donor, Namaste!

Warm Greetings From RSKS India Family......

Then winter set in, and hundreds of children from slums and the streets had to face the cold with little protection and no comfort. In response to this desperate need, Rajasthan Samagra Kalyan Sansthan (RSKS) India extended their warmth and kindness. Under this winter support intervention, 300 vulnerable children from 12 slum areas were provided necessary items for the purpose of winter care in the form of woolen caps, warm gloves, woolen socks, boots/shoes and nourishing winter edibles like peanut gajak; dates and Bakeri confectionary items. For kids who frequently endure freezing mornings without shoes, and go hungry, these things were not luxuries but lifelines.

The team in India at RSKS worked in collaboration with local leaders to identify the most vulnerable children and deliver the support where it was needed most. Every distribution was done with such care and dignity, but also with JOY- smiles all around as kids put on their new warm hats and shoes (some for the first time ever!). In addition to distributing materials, RSKS also held child-focused awareness sessions by telling children and family these practical and key practices for preventing themselves from the cold related diseases. It put families in the know, reminding them that protection from winter is as much a state of mind as it is a piece of clothing.

What’s heartbreaking is there are stories that leave us devastated such as the one of 8-year-old Pooja (Name Changed) who lives with her parents and younger brother in a slum on the side of the road. Pooja use to get deprived of outing every winters because of extreme cold and falling ill again & again. Well, after getting warm shoes and socks and gloves, she bashfully said, “Now my feet won’t hurt in the morning and I can go to outing even when it’s cold.” Her mother, choking up, said the winter foodstuffs would help keep her children energetic when meals are nothing to be taken for granted. Pooja’s story embodies the silent fears and unexpected gladnesses of hundreds of families we reached.

For continuous learning and to ensure improved satisfaction, RSKS India gathered random feedbacks from beneficiary children / families, and closely listened their experiences with suggestions. This information will shape future winter interventions to be more adapted and effective.

Dear Donor, Every warm cap, each pair of shoes and sturdy bite contained your love. Thank you for being there remotely with RSKS India and thinking that no child should face the winter cool waves without a warm care.
