When Celeste contacted us earlier this year she was distraught. Her husband's abuse had escalated over the years from emotional, verbal and coercive control to physical pushing and throwing objects at her.
When he angrily grabbed her daughter Amaya's arm and dislocated it, that was the last straw for Celeste.
Celeste did not want Amaya growing up thinking that it was acceptable to have a man who was abusive. But getting out of Bolivia and back to the USA seemed impossible.
We worked with Celeste for several months safety planning, providing emotional support, arranging a legal consultation and connected her to resources in her home state so she understood every step she would be taking to get from danger to safety.
One all of the components of her escape back home were in place, Celeste fled Bolivia with Amaya and returned home.
They are safe and happy all because of donors like you! Here is part of an email from Celeste.
"That was (her escape) so scary. I thought he would catch us at any moment. It was your guidance and constant support that gave me the courage to escape. I feel like I can breathe again for the first time in a long time."
It is the support of donors like you that make our work possible. Thank you from the Pathways' Team!
