Provide healthcare to remote displaced communities

 Project Goal

To provide free primary healthcare services to people in vulnerable communities affected by the ongoing socio-political crisis in the North-West and South-West regions of Cameroon.

Project Objectives

1. To support two (2) CHWs in Kitta, Ekondo-Titi Health District to provide free primary healthcare services to those in need.
2. To perform surveillance on diseases prone to outbreaks in Kitta and Tole.

Results

1. Provision of Healthcare services to Vulnerable Persons: In the month of October, community health workers in Ekondo Titi provided primary health care services to 77 people (34 males and 43 females) of the vulnerable population in Kitta. These services included treatment of simple malaria (10 persons; 8 males and 2 females), simple diarrhea (13 persons: 4 males and 9 females) and simple acute respiratory tract infection (8 persons: 4 males and 4 females). For maternal care, 3 newly identified pregnant women were referred to health facilities for ANC and 3 births were reported in the community.
2. Sensitisation for Health promotion: The CHWs mobilized and engaged over 200 members of host communities in health educative talks for health promotion during home visits and community gatherings. The most attended educational talk sessions were on and diarrhea prevention (217 persons),proper latrine use (216 people), and A.R.I prevention (215 persons). 
3. Screening of Children <5 years for Severe Acute Malnutrition: The CHWs in Ekondo-titi screened 62 children (Figure 2) < 5 years were consulted for severe acute malnutrition (SAM) using a MUAC tape and 8 caregivers were sensitized on appropriate feeding for children <5 years.
